Bienvenue dans le site de Joanne Peacock
Born in the UK, Joanne’s discovered her passion for music via her love of dance. She studied classical ballet, contemporary dance and tap. It was through musical theatre that she discovered numbers from the American Songbook.
During her teens, she started to sing, first of all in choirs and folk groups. In her early twenties she joined a blues band and sang regularly at local events, studying vocal technique and music alongside her primary university studies (Modern Languages and Business).
After moving to Switzerland in 2010, Joanne decided to start studying music again, and enrolled at the EJMA in Lausanne (School of Jazz and Modern Music) for jazz training. She completed a number of workshops across Europe and started performing again with local groups, as a guest vocalist. She discovered an active Blues scene in Switzerland, and became well known for her authentic interpretation of classic songs made famous by Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Big Mama Thornton (amongst others). She also started performing in jazz bars and clubs with a repertoire of swing classics.
Joanne’s recording career began in 2020 when a French/Canadian pianist (Philippe Martel) proposed that she record an EP with her sixteen year old daughter, Lily Sollors. ‘Just The Two Of Us’ was recorded in Annecy, France. The duo was accompanied by three renowned jazz musicians: Philippe Martel (piano), Fred Debraine (double bass), and Jean-Pierre Derouard (drums and trumpet).
In 2022 she met Argentina pianist, arranger and composer Lucas Herrera Fernandez. A collaboration began, leading to The Peacock Project, which combines Joanne’s love of jazz with her love of musical theatre. Joanne’s second CD (Jazzy Musicals) was recorded in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2023.
Over the past ten years, Joanne has travelled extensively, performing at festivals and clubs mainly in Switzerland, France and Romania. She now manages two projects of her own: The Peacock Project and Wild Women Don’t Get The Blues.
